2-in-1 Wall Mounted Controller Allows Speaker Volume Adjustment and Infrared (IR) Remote Control of an Audio Source

April 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Product Title (In box)

If you have a multi-room audio system, you can control the volume of speakers in individual rooms by installing wall-mounted volume adjusters in each zone. If you are running more than one pair of speakers from the same amplifier speaker outputs, this impedance matching volume control will allow you to compensate for the impedance drop of using multiple sets of speakers in parallel. The 100-Watt Impedance Matching Volume Control wires between your amplifier/receiver and the speakers, letting you adjust the speaker volume with the soft touch 12 step rotary attenuation knob. This product also features a pass-through IR receiver, which can be used to control the connected receiver and/or audio/video (A/V) device feeding the amplifier. A compact size and removable terminal blocks that accept up to 14-Gage wire make this volume controller an easy install. This product comes with the convenience of white, ivory, almond and black Decora inserts and volume knobs to match your home décor.

Please Note: The IR capability of this device requires the use of a connecting block, emitters, and a power supply, each sold separately

  • 100-Watt RMS capacity
  • Rotary knob spins right for increased volume and left for decreased volume
  • Infrared (IR) pass-through receiver to control an audio/video source
  • Allows up to 16 speakers to be connected to one amplifier
  • Easy to set impedance match level
  • Includes decora-style insert, trim plate and knob in white, ivory, almond and black
  • Price: $109.99

Smarthome’s Steve Lee Teaches the Next Generation

    April 24, 2009 · Leave a Comment

of Southern California Electricians About Home Automation

IRVINE, CA – In an effort to educate aspiring electricians about the growing home automation industry, Smarthome has partnered with local educational institutions to teach students the basics of remote lighting and appliance control using SmartLabs’s award-winning INSTEON technology. In recent weeks, Smarthome’s National Sales & Training Manager, Steve Lee, has hosted a class from Westminster (CA) High School and taught a class at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA.

Lee has been in the electrical business for over 20 years. As part of his training to become an electrician, Lee learned by having an apprenticeship and learning on the job.

“When I entered the electrical trade, I learned by working with others,” said Lee, “after establishing myself for many years, I attended a Smarthome training class. It was at that class that I decided the direction I wanted to take my career – home automation. I’m hoping my training classes can have the same impact on these students.”

David Rodriguez, professor of structured wiring at Orange Coast College added, “Steve is passionate about passing along career information. The electrical vocation is being overlooked in today’s society. Our nation’s future in energy consumption will be based on zero net metering (having a home’s energy consumption equal to the amount of energy it produces), and INSTEON will aid homeowners in achieving it.”

“Our class has a unique student base,” added Rodriguez. “We have students who are new to the electrical trade, current electricians who are looking to continue their education, and other professionals who are considering a career change. A local INSTEON installer actually took my course and received training from Steve, so there is definitely an opportunity for students to take the knowledge and run with it.”

Lee continues to make time for local students, though his schedule often finds him crossing the country, educating current and prospective installers as a part of SmarthomePro’s INSTEON training seminars. More information about the training seminars can be found online at www.smarthomepro.com/training.
